About Idaho

Idaho's history dates back to Native American tribes like the Nez Perce, Shoshone, and Bannock who inhabited the region for thousands of years before European exploration. In the early 1800s, explorers and fur trappers ventured into the area, and the Lewis and Clark Expedition passed through present-day Idaho in 1805. The Oregon Trail, a major route for pioneers during westward expansion, crossed through southern Idaho. Idaho became a U.S. territory in 1863, and it was admitted as the 43rd state of the United States on July 3, 1890. The discovery of gold in the 1860s brought a rush of settlers to the region, leading to the growth of towns and cities.
